Manon Delrieux

Originally from the south of France, ceramics are for me the means of expressing my art. In particular through decorative pots such as soliflores, otherwise known as "thin-necked vases".
I was born in 2000 so my career is easy to trace. I studied applied arts in high school, which reassured me that I wanted to live from my works. Having already worked with clay as a child, and preferring volume to the flat aspect of a sheet, I turned to this material again during these years.
Wanting to understand all the know-how (in a much deeper way than the modeling done at home) of this craft, I did professional training at the Atelier Ré-création in Aix-en-Provence. It was then that I learned the practice of throwing with Elisabeth Cornet, which has become my main production tool. So I did this training over 2 years in order to feel perfectly autonomous in a workshop as well as improve myself on the wheel.

At the age of 20, at the end of these 2 years of studies, I had the chance to be able to work from my passion. First by giving lessons with L'atelier Ré-création, then, today, in L'Atelier 8, also located in Aix-en-Provence.
Giving classes and being in contact with people allows me to take an essential step back on pottery in general. However, beyond teaching, I also feel the need to create.
This is how my desire to work with a less common clay came about, a very bumpy grey sandstone. It took me 3 years to find the style of pieces I wanted to do, and today I hope they reflect you as much as they reflect me.
I like to play on the contrast of textures and colors as well as on contradiction. Give a part of smoothness to another more raw (sometimes even similar to concrete). Create the illusion of an industrial piece yet with artisanal features. Awaken the senses when touching these textures. Imagining the natural over the artificial.
